When Buick launched its gleaming grilles with the vertical ribs back in the fifties, they soon took on the nickname of the Dollar Grin, a term that was eventually used for all big American cars from that golden age. Chrome remains by far the most popular choice for surfaces of showers and mixer taps. It provides both protection against corrosion and an attractive, shiny surface that is easy to keep clean.
